George Barron gets a second chance at living his dream, when he visits his high school reunion and gets to play some songs with his old band. The music allows him to relieve some stress from his real estate business and the responsibilities of marriage and family. When the band plays at a local club, they get the opportunity to go on tour. George has to decide if he wants to take the chance on being a rock star, with the negative effects it could have on his marriage, his family, and his business. Or risk losing the opportunity to fulfill his dream of playing music.

Desperate for a good story, Los Angelos journalist Steve Lopez (Robert Downey, Jr.), tries to interview a homeless violinist named Nathaniel Ayers (Jamie Foxx). Nathaniel attended the Julliard School and is a brilliant violinist despite the degrading state of his violin. His mental illness prevents him from leading a conventional life. Steve hopes to improve Nathaniel’s life but soon learns that there may be a limit to the help that Nathaniel is able to accept.

Biggie’s relationships and career follow a rocky path as he tries to clean up his life.
